SE:TAPak, A Step Towards Secure Retirement for the Self-Employed

10 March 2026

Tabung Amanah Pekerja (TAP) launched a new outreach programme, SE:TAPak aimed at helping self-employed individuals learn more about the Skim Persaraan Kebangsaan (SPK) and how it can support their retirement needs. This initiative is designed to make information and registration more accessible and convenient, especially for those who may not have the time to visit TAP branches.

Through SE:TAPak, TAP officers may visit self-employed individuals directly at their place of work, to share information, answer questions, and guide them through the registration process in a way that is simple and convenient.

For this session, SE:TAPak focuses on Ramadhan stall vendors, who are among the busiest entrepreneurs during the fasting month. During the visit, TAP officers met vendors face-to-face to provide a brief explanation of the benefits of the Skim Persaraan Kebangsaan Self-Employed (SPK SE) and share necessary information about SPK SE.

SPK SE is a voluntary scheme for self-employed individuals to contribute and build their retirement savings. Subject to eligibility criteria and conditions, verified self-employed individuals will receive an additional contribution through the Government Match‑Up. The scheme also extends protection to members’ dependents through derivative benefits, strengthening social security coverage for self-employed individuals.

SPK SE accommodates a wide range of self‑employment types, including stall vendors, freelancers, gig workers, runners, online sellers, and home‑based entrepreneurs, by allowing voluntary contributions that can be adjusted according to one’s income, supporting consistent savings and long‑term financial security.

TAP encourages all self-employed individuals to register to the scheme and learn how SPK SE can provide greater protection and stability for their future.

SE:TAPak is an ongoing programme, and TAP will continue to visit different districts, markets, and business areas throughout the year to further expand outreach to the self‑employed community.
